I think I always preferred the vocal albums that B&F released, as opposed to the Dub and DJ albums, fine though a lot of them were. So I have looked these out

I've always had a soft spot for the Sylford Walker & Welton Irie, "Lamb's Bread" release. "Deuteronomy" and "Eternal Day" in particular are killer tracks.
Also love the Chantells and Friends release and there was another Phase One compilation, "We are getting bad" which was even better (IMPO) though I don't think B&F relased that one. I don't know whether you'ld call Roy Francis underrated or not.

We are getting bad was on Motion Records. A great little label, run by some guy called James whose second name escapes me. They had a penchant for releasing Skatalites and Vic Godard/Subway Sect albums, and some dub albums.

I have a copy of the test press General Echo and both sides play well. A seminal album I think General Ech set the bar for those chatters who followed in his footsteps

i have most of the releases of both labels. i think regarding "hits" and "misses" they have the same rate ...
as someone mentioned, b&f is a little bit too much on the bunny lee/king tubby side. well, ps is a little bit too much on the upsetter side.
ps would be the winner, if their covers would be better. the actual one (Zion Hill Dub) is terrible.

I used to moan on and on about Pressure Sounds' graphics on the old Blood and Fire board. I found them dreadful - almost impossible to read - eg blue type on slightly lighter blue background: hopeless. Even nowadays, benefitting from the surgery on my eyes, I still can't read some of them - not even in natural light. But the music was usually entirely compensatory; if I had to choose a favourite PS release (not that I have them all by any means), it would probably be Wailing Souls at Channel One.

I love the Impact All Stars disc from B&F....
Also, I remember seeing U Brown and Trinity in Boston probably about ten or fifteen years ago on some sort of B&F tour....pretty cool.
But man, those days are long gone....
peace.

While B&F had some great releases, I feel that PS has been much more consistent. Some B&F releases were quite dull in my opinion. The label I miss the most is Jamaican Gold. Really great stuff there.
