I heard her version of Neil Young's After The Goldrush (taken from her new album) on the radio today. Its a great song - well at least Neil Young's version is.

Yes... And that's the best track from the whole album (pretty lame album, imho... Benja's missus won't be happy with that present)

Maybe we could let her decide for herself, Zokes.
That's what she said, anyway.

Saw that Patti Smith and her Full Band last week. I’m sure glad I did, a top musical evening. Where I was standing was bad as far as seeing goes (obviously being less than 100cm tall has its disadvantages), as per fecking usual at the Troxy, but the sound the band were making was superb. Very musical, precise and balanced is how I would describe the band, letting our mate Patti get on with being Patti.
She is such a bloody hippy, but kind of in a good way. Talking about the peace she finds on entering a church. The power of prayer (not Christian necessarily) or at least embracing the pureness of the human spirit and whatnot “who cares what f-ing God you pray to!”.
That kind of thing.
Sang her hits and that. Plenty of the album mentioned above. Plenty of love in the room for her that night. She felt it.
She charmed me by (genuinely) mixing up Wembley and Wimbledon as in:
“I’ve played in many venues in London, this one is a new one (cheers). Maybe I’ll keep coming back til I’m 90 so I can play all of ‘em!(bigger cheers) But I’ll tell you one place I won’t play and that’s that Wembley Stadium (actually I think she meant Wembley Arena – some more loud cheers)... err isn’t that where they... play tennis, huh, huh???” (hilarity at her somewhat baffled tone)
She never mentioned our Golden Summer of Sport before or after.
I was thinking you gotta support people like her as an antidote to all those haters out there, some of whom live in her home country.
Thanks to the missus for dragging me along.

Can't say I've ever really liked Patti Smith much. Some of her stuff is ok I guess. Her "masterpiece" Horses has always left me thinking "ok, not bad but give me Television or The Ramones, Talking Heads or New York Dolls anytime". And don't get me started on that bombastic piece of crap "Because The Night"
