word up don burger.. a couple questions if you dont mind?
> 25 Nat Sniw - True true
know any more about this one? have this single.. didn't remember it as a wackies but def ny thing, def from the earlier time.. but don you know the flip? uncredited augustus pablo piece? supposed to be one of his best hidden.. nice tune...
> 28 Carl Dryden - Heavy Zephy
same tunes as recorded by the styles? i think it was dryden singing in the styles, the single i have credits them as vocalists, c.dryden as writer... and i had this as a studio one recording, not wackies.. either i just think that or think its true from hearing inside a studio p session where he was playing deep coxsone... something like that. or i could have just decided it for no reason.. i do that too..
anyway, a bad set of music
thanks for any info

High Favorite, i am no wackies expert and i filed the above tracks under "Wackies" because once upon a time i bought various cds called "New York Beat", so my guess was that it's all wackies related except there was another studio in New York i am not aware of. The whole cd series was done by a collector and he printed labels on the discs. i assume that's waht destroyed them over the years. there are still many more collections from this guy like "Freedom fe Natty" and others. I once had round about 20 discs from this collector and none of them runs anymore. the discs were sold in some reggae shops in Hamburg. I think most people who bought the "original" cds have the same problem with them. but i know that a lot of CDR copies are floating around so i still have hope to get back some of the tracks. I can't help you with track 25 and 28 here, because it's too long ago. needless to say that i am very upset about those fuckings discs ........

I'd like to hear a lot of those tunes - the selection is more about small NY labels/studios than Wackies specifically. Very cool portrait of that era, many truly obscure tunes. A few might have actually been rec. in Ja. - Glen Adams' killer version of Stay Dread (gotta be Carlie on drums,) for example - but in some cases it's hard to say, perhaps some of that stuff was tracked down a yard then voiced and/or mixed in NY...

About no.28 : I have that one as by The Styles also on the Equator label (and writercredit "C.Dryden").Also have Carl's " Love me again" on a Canadian label, so there might be a wackies connection !

16. should read ras "clifton" I think and not "ifton" and his tune Queen of the Universe probably would have been a better choice, of the two of his I'm familiar with, to put on this cd-r. Look Over Yonder starts off promising enough but as soon as the vocals come and the opening lick disappears, it's a bit dull though I've still enjoyed it over the years. Conversely, Queen of the Universe starts out a bit dull but the vocals kick in a nice melody that sustains more or less throughout.
The Eric Clarke tune is an old favorite of me and my brothers and the Joe Morgan's Basement session is a killer which I usually play along side or in partner with Makka Bee's Nation Fiddler which probably would have fit nicely on the comp but the songs on this cd-r are hit and miss, some are great, some are ok but if you can get your hands on it and the sound quality is nice, I'd recommend trying to get it. Some of the tracks I have aren't of the greatest quality and the vibe on a bunch are of that muddy sort of raw sound a la wackies so good quality would be a plus.

If I could figure out what is wrong with putfile site, I'd PUT a bunch of them up so you guys could check it out, or just do a mix with all the tracks from there I have on one of those blog/podcast things but I'm not so good with figuring that shit out as it is inhuman.
Adam, how'd you like the Basement Session?
The KC tune is real nice one too going back through this list and the Itopia Creation tune is a version of the Creole tune of the same name which is nice as well.
Also, the wackies Free For All is a version of that little roy track on Packin' House on Pressure Sounds and is also the same tune that they used to have on their front page of the website.
