Zaiko Langa Langa - Tala Modele Echanger: Hits inoubliables volume 1
I have this album as a cd reissue (EPP03) Actually, I've had the album for several years languishing half-forgotten in my stack of cd:s. For the life of me, I can't understand why. All great stuff, and the cd sounds just fine in spite of the "ultra low budget" looks of the cover.

Maroon Commandos - Greatest Hits
By the way, Matt, I've just got the African Pearls Congo 70 from Sterns by the same post as the Maroon Commandos but haven't listened yet. Wonder if you can answer me a question. On the front cover of the Congo 70 slip case, please could you identify the dudes in red DJs carrying their guitars like metal detectors? I can name the rest - that's a headless Nico leaning on the drums, Verckys on mic, and Franco on guitar across the top but can't identify the band at the bottom right.

Buzzcocks - Noise Annoys (Manchester Apollo 1978)
Pangs of nostalgia. But God, I love those guitars!

One of señor DeVilles best albums in my opinion. He's been consistently on good form in the past years.

Matt, I think your guess that the suave looking chaps on the cover of Congo 70 were members of Les Bantous is spot on: www.bolingo.org/albums/36500/source/cd36527ax.htmMeanwhile my album of the day is Virunga's African Classics disc. And particularly the song "Dunia Tuna Pita" which has everything one could possibly want to embellish a Wednesday evening: Samba Mapangala's emotionally generous voice, the magnetically compulsive bass and drums and the "for god's sake get up and dance" swelling, torrential magnificence of the guitars. Paradise regained even though the song is about the transience of life - you guess the message is "make sure you enjoy it". Shame it fades out after five minutes ....

Magazine to reform? That's interesting. I think I have two albums by them somewhere, the Daylight one and Correct Use of Soap.
Shot By Both Sides and Song From Under the Floorboards are still favourites, and Barry Adamson has been doing interesting music since then.
For me it'll be Les Rita Mitsouko and their unplugged live album Acoustiques.

Her second record, "Chapter Two" is pretty fine too Kalcidis, but that first one is a knockout.

James Carr - A Man Needs A Woman (Ace/Kent cd) I'm quite literally at a loss for words about this album. Wow! (But you all knew all about the man already of course, so you know what I want to say...)
